There is nothing better for kids than going back to nature. The opportunity to spend time in a field for a few days is just what they love. It’s all the better if there is a campfire and marshmallows to toast! If before kids you have only really camped as a necessity at festivals and can remember the discomfort of the deflating airbed and the freezing 5 am plod across the field in search of a loo then you’ll be glad to know things have really moved on a pace in the last few years. we say glamorous camping has certainly caught on. From yurts, to bell tents, to safari tents, to tipi’s and to my favourite Airstreams! Airstreams are gorgeous silver American Caravans (or trailers as the American’s call them). They are beautiful, curvy and shiny and you can even do your lippy without a mirror. As well as exuding an old style class they are very cosy.

A couple of years ago my hubby and I set up Happy Days Retro Vacations because we were looking for a life change and we were crazy about Airstreams. And so we moved to Dorset and bought some Airstreams and our business was born. We found a peaceful campsite close to the New Forest and the lovely sandy beaches at Bournemouth and Poole. There is a fantastic country park just up the road with amazing play trails in the wood and a mini steam train, a gorgeous 1950’s model village in the nearest town and Peppa pig World is less than half an hour away.
Kids just love caravans, they are homes that are the perfect size for them. We have two young kids ourselves so we knew we had to get it right for parents. There are lovely site toilet and shower facilities with heated towel rails and the Airstreams do also have a loo on board. All of the curtains have blackout lining and we provide highchairs, bed rails and travel cots. TV’s might not seem the best way to get back to nature but having holidayed in the rain with our kids we decided that TV’s with DVDs was a must for any parent who is trying to get some relaxation on holiday. There is a small lake on the site but we move the Airstreams around and always put families with little ones as far away from it as possible.
Glamping holidays are particularly good if you like to holiday with a number of families. When the kids have run themselves ragged all day, had their fill of marshmallows and then fallen exhausted into their beds then the grown ups can get the wine or the local cider open and warm their knees by the fire and look at the stars.
So if you fancy getting away for a few days but don’t want to take everything but the kitchen sink this could be perfect. The Airstreams are all heated, have fridges, cookers, radios, TVs, all kitchen equipment and duvets, pillows and extra blankets. All you need to bring is food, towels and bedding (or you can hire from us and we will have your beds made up ready for you). And of course don’t forget the marshmallows!!!
